Easy baked brisket recipe that will leave you with a delicious meal. There is no need to smoke a brisket all night!

I’ve prepared this brisket recipe over ten times. It’s my top choice for family gatherings or when friends visit. While brisket might seem labor-intensive, I assure you this recipe requires very little effort!

delicious baked brisket that's easy to make.

I also prepare ribs using this method, and they turn out fantastic! Interestingly, this recipe originated from a far more complex one that required homemade barbecue sauce, and while it was good, it wasn’t my favorite. I decided to simplify things by using a barbecue rub for added flavor and one of my preferred barbecue sauces, Sweet Baby Ray’s.

My husband and I contemplated getting a smoker, but after seeing the prices, we felt it wasn’t the right time. Yet, we still wanted to enjoy great brisket. I aimed for a simple yet delicious approach to this cut of meat. By using a rub and barbecue sauce, it really enhances the flavor, and slow cooking makes it incredibly tender. Here’s a quick overview:

Start by trimming the fat from the brisket.

Generously coat it with your favorite barbecue seasoning (I recommend Butt Rub, available on Amazon).

Tightly wrap the brisket in heavy aluminum foil and place it on a rimmed baking sheet.

Bake at 300 degrees for 3-5 hours, depending on your brisket’s size. A good rule of thumb is an hour per pound.

After baking, remove the foil, brush on some barbecue sauce, and return it to the oven to broil for 10 minutes until charred. Alternatively, you can char it on the grill.

The key step: LET IT REST for 30 minutes. If needed, reheat in a warm oven. This resting period allows the juices to redistribute, ensuring the meat is juicy and tender.

And there you have it! The simplest baked brisket you’ll ever create!

The easiest baked brisket you'll ever make!

Ingredients

  • 3-5 pound brisket, fat trimmed.
  • 3-4 tablespoons of your favorite barbecue seasoning (I use Butt Rub)
  • Sweet Baby Ray’s Original or your favorite barbecue sauce.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. Generously season brisket with barbecue seasoning on both sides, massaging it in with your fingers. Feel free to add as much seasoning as you prefer; don’t hesitate to coat the brisket thoroughly.
  3. Wrap brisket securely with at least two pieces of heavy aluminum foil and place it on a large rimmed pan or in a substantial baking dish.
  4. Bake for 3-5 hours based on the size of your brisket. A good guideline is one hour per pound—so for a 5-pound brisket, bake for 5 hours. If it’s 1-2 pounds, you may need to cook it longer. You can check if it’s tender by twisting a fork in the center; if it twists easily without resistance, it should be done!
  5. Remove from the oven, take off the foil, and brush on the barbecue sauce. Put the brisket back into the oven and broil for 5-10 minutes until it becomes slightly charred and bubbly. You may also grill the brisket instead of broiling it.
