I first discovered the popular Birria Tacos on TikTok during quarantine while seeking out mini culinary adventures. I thought to myself, what exactly are birria tacos?!? While I was familiar with birria, I wanted to learn more.
Ingredients
- 2 lbs beef chuck roast
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups beef broth
- 3 dried guajillo chiles
- 1 dried ancho chile
- 1 dried pasilla chile
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp oregano
- Corn tortillas
- Cheese (optional)
- Chopped cilantro
- Lime wedges
How to Prepare Birria Tacos
- 1. Rehydrate the dried chiles by soaking them in hot water for approximately 20 minutes.
- 2. Blend the soaked chiles with garlic, cumin, and oregano until you achieve a smooth consistency.
- 3. In a large pot, sear the beef chuck roast on all sides until browned.
- 4. Add the chopped onion, blended chile sauce, and beef broth to the pot.
- 5. Cover and simmer for 2-3 hours until the beef is tender and easily shredded.
- 6. Shred the beef and reserve the liquid for dipping.
- 7. Assemble the tacos with shredded beef, cilantro, cheese (if desired), and a wedge of lime.
