These BBQ Bison Sliders are simple, delightful, and infused with a smoky flavor. If bison isn’t available, feel free to substitute with beef, pork, or even turkey.
These burgers can also be grilled on a gas or charcoal grill, if preferred.
Ingredients
- 1 pound ground bison meat (or any other ground meat of your choice)
- ¼ cup BBQ sauce (plus a bit extra for drizzling; select a sweet and smokey variety)
- salt and pepper (to taste)
- vegetable oil (for cooking)
- 6 small slider buns or rolls halved (Kings Hawaiian Rolls are a great option)
- cilantro leaves (to your liking)
- thinly sliced red onion (to your liking)
Directions
In a medium bowl, combine the ground bison meat with ¼ cup BBQ sauce, seasoning with salt and pepper. Mix gently by hand, being careful not to overwork the meat. Divide into 6 equal portions and shape each into a 3/4-inch thick patty, making a small indentation in the center of each to keep their shape while cooking. Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
Heat a large grill pan or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat (see notes). Add a drizzle of oil to the hot pan. Cook the burgers in batches without crowding, approximately 2 to 3 minutes until browned, then flip and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes for medium-rare.
As the burgers cook, place the buns cut side down on a heated grill pan, skillet, or griddle, rotating as necessary, until lightly toasted. Remove from heat, drizzle more BBQ sauce on the bun bottoms, add cilantro leaves, top with a cooked burger, another drizzle of BBQ sauce, and some red onion. Place the top bun on and serve warm.
